Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions our clients ask most often – about costs, timelines and fees, and about the way we work.

What costs can I expect when bringing a claim in court?

We first carry out a detailed analysis of your case so that we can give you an estimate of the costs. These usually include the lawyer's fee, court fees and any expenses for expert reports or expert witnesses. We always explain in advance which of these costs are unavoidable and which can be reduced or avoided.

How long does debt recovery usually take?

The duration varies from case to case, but the main factors are the court's workload, the extent to which the debtor disputes the claim and whether an out-of-court settlement is possible. We try to speed up the process wherever possible and always keep you informed of the expected timelines so that you can plan your resources.

Are lawyers' fees set by an official tariff or freely agreed?

Since the minimum amounts under the regulation on lawyers' fees ceased to be binding, fees are agreed freely according to the complexity of the case, the amount in dispute and the time involved. We always prepare an individual quote based on the actual parameters of the case, with full transparency and a clear explanation of every cost.

How can I keep the costs of court proceedings down?

We recommend an early legal consultation and providing all the necessary documents in full, so that the process runs as efficiently as possible. Discussing the case early opens the way to out-of-court negotiations where possible and appropriate, which is often cheaper than full litigation. We know that budget is a key factor for clients and try to offer flexible fee arrangements and payment by instalments.

Can I get an advance estimate of the cost and duration of the case?

Yes. After an initial review of the documents and the circumstances of the case, we prepare an indicative estimate of the likely costs and timelines. It is not finally binding, because unforeseen circumstances may arise or further evidence may be needed in any proceedings, but it gives you a clear idea of how the case is likely to develop and what it may cost.

Do you act for clients abroad or in cases involving foreign parties?

Yes. We assist clients abroad and in cases involving foreign parties or assets abroad, from contracts with foreign partners to employment and property disputes affecting persons outside Bulgaria.

Do you try to settle out of court before suing for a debt?

Yes. Our first step is usually an attempt at an out-of-court settlement with the debtor, which is a faster and cheaper solution for the client before the matter goes to court.

Do you check the legal status of a property before the client completes a transaction?

Yes. We carry out legal due diligence on the property (encumbrances, ownership, registrations) before the transaction to minimise the risks for the buyer.
